Retail Store / Restaurant Observation
This project involved
visiting and analyzing different retail spaces through observation, sketches,
and photos, determining their individual concepts, and applying their concepts
to the design of a presentation board.
Jewelry Store Cubist
This project relied heavily on spatial analysis and concept development for designing a posh retail Jewelry store. The space was to meet all program requirements by providing window displays, a semi-private viewing area, a cash wrap, a showroom floor, and the back of the house, all of which were to be designed for accessibility.
Jewelry Store Elysian
Elysian Jewelers, inspired by Greek architecture and
mythology, incorporates clean and sharp geometric structure to contrast with
the concept of the Elysian’s location near flowing water in Greek myths. The
design will ultimately aim to shape the
space into an experience, rather than a commitment. Passersby will catch a
glimpse of the interior, where a jeweler is repairing jewelry and customers are
viewing jewelry through the main window, intended to draw their attention and
attract them into the space. Neutrals and soft blues and greens will compose
the color scheme of the space, further promoting the concept of water and
psychologically inducing a calm and relaxed mindset to the clientele.
While not on an intimate scale, clientele will still feel oriented and comfortable due to the openness of the space that will surely extinguish any feeling of enclosure or intimidation. Furthermore, the design will accommodate the client’s new, updated image, while still capturing the timeless essence of jewelry through modern approaches with asymmetry and simplified geometry fused with inspiration from Ancient Greece. Overall, with the use of a modern spatial approach, high ceilings and overall design, Elysian Jewelers will accomplish the client’s desire for a “clean and elegant” space, in addition to succeed with the proposed design concept.

Jewelry Store Infinity
According to Hindu mythology, gems are considered to hold cosmic powers. Clients are advised by astrologers on what gem to wear in order to alter their destinies and determine their luck. There are nine gems used to determine this and they each represent a planet. If you were lucky enough to have a diamond chosen for you, it is said to hold powerful effects on love, procreation and immortality.
To represent the nine gems, there is a set of nine hanging glass spheres circling the sun that hold a different cluster of each gem. The design also embraces this astronomical belief, by using an outer space theme décor. This is shown by having a monumental sized sun in the center with "orbiting" planet shaped display cases around it. The remaining circles in the design are shown orbiting the sun further out and protrude into the wall to make space appear infinite, like it has no boundaries also, the floor and ceiling will be the same design, with shelves of the same design. The same colors are used on the shelving to bring the eye from the floor, up to the walls, and to the ceiling. They are all the same to make you appear as if you are floating in space and to get the full effect of orbiting. The interior colors will be dark blues to pull you into the space setting. There is a circular white terrazzo floor around the display cases and the cases are lit up, so that the customer follows this pattern in a circular motion to once again get a feel of the orbiting affect.

Jewelry Store Pietra Dura
The Jewelry store is given an Italian name, Pietra Dura, meaning "hard rock" or "hard stone." This meaning is to represent the hard edge rocks, such as diamonds, used in Jewelry. The design concept of the Jewelry store, Pietra Dura, is to create a dark, clean cut environment using dark natural materials where the products are highlighted by spotlights to allow the shiny materials from the Jewelry to be the center light of attention. The concept of Jewelry's hard crisp edges and smooth surfaces is used throughout the store through the use of smooth materials and angular edges in the casework and floor plan. The rectangular casework, the angular walls, and the variations of ceiling levels represents the crisp cuts of Jewelry. The slate walls, ceramic flooring, and steel and glass casework represents the smooth surfaces of the stones in Jewelry.

Jewelry Store Criteria
Art deco is a style that was prominent in the 1920s and 1930s. This style affected everything from architecture and interior design to fashion and movies. The art deco style is a plethora of influences that result in strong shapes and bold colors and patterns. The concept behind the design of geometric is to effectively utilize the art deco style in a high end retail space. Strong geometric elements will create a dramatic art deco base. Strong colors will emphasize this shape and create layers in the space that will help establish a hierarchy of merchandise. The geometric base of the design will create a distinguished traffic pattern that will ensure that all of the jewelry is viewed. The jewelry will be displayed on contrasting backgrounds to enhance the beauty of each piece. Geometric will be a unique store that will provide a very pleasant and memorable jewelry shopping experience.
Jewelry Store Jeweled Nest
The design concept is based around the idea of a bird's nest and applies to touch all ages and times in a person's life. The forms of both circular and oval will be repeated throughout the space representing a circular nest and oval eggs through a symmetrical layout. The natural, cozy, motherly design will allow shoppers to feel comfortable in the space and want to spend hours in the store. The semi private viewing area is somewhat closed off and in the shape of a circular nest to allow the customers to feel separate from the store. The modern style is shown through the direct nest lines on the private room and the clean form of the egos in the entry. The viewing room is the visual interest. The traffic flow relates to the nest shape and flows in a circular path. the color scheme is a neutral base of rich browns, creams, light tans, and gold metallices that contrast with the rear wall of a deep aquamarine. The flooring will be a weathered gray lindelum wood base, the concept of wanting to be in a bird's eye view will be pursued through the location of the windows along the walls of the store.
